Happy 83rd!

This has been a very difficult week for our family and friends. Thanks to all for the prayers, kind words, donations and well wishes.
On a lighter note … our “Energizer Bunny … keeps going and going. Although we had a brief scare on Wednesday, as Gordo had to be taken to the emergency room. Thank God for my sister Liz … who stepped in and got him there.
Now he is home … yapping away and singing.
So today … we celebrate life!
Happy 83rd birthday Gordo!

A "Must" Read

I just finished reading a fabulous novel. It was so good that I bought the Kindle version for Gordo’s iPad and insisted he read it too.
We both concur that it’s a “must” read.
“The Crimson Petal and the White” by Michel Faber
Who needs the New York Times’ Book Review … when you have Gordo and Pooker Annie?
Stay tuned for our next review.

Twilight Zone

Gordo is hardly ever in a bad mood, but yesterday was an exception.
He woke me up …claiming his catheter was leaking like a sieve. So I went running down the stairs and into his room. Checked and … yes there was some leakage.
I assured him that he was leaking slightly, but it was hardly a sieve. He then barked back at me “I guess it depends on ones’ definition of a sieve!” “Dad … the point is that it is not an emergency and I will call your nurse at 8am and have her come out and fix it.” He’s obviously put out with my lack of “caring” and says … “Well Pooker Annie … I guess I have no choice … do I?” “Well dad … the only alternative is going to the hospital … as it is 4am!”
OK … thinking this conversation is over … I cover him back up … kiss his head and start to leave the room… when he shouts out … “I bet if you called Cheryl Clark Franke … she’d come right now! … OMG! “Dad … she is your foot doctor!” And with that … his only comment was …” maybe so … but she WOULD come straight over!”
His nurse did come at 9am and fix him up … but he was snippy with her too.
OK … what to do with a cranky 82 year old. I know … I’ll rent Breaking Dawn part 2. The last movie of the Twilight series and he has read all the books. Think this idea will delight him? He (seriously) looks at me and states …” I’ll only watch it if Bella ends up with the hunky stud werewolf (aka Jacob).”
Folks at this point …I am at the end of my rope and yell at him … “I can’t change the ending of a movie! Do you want to watch the damned thing or not?” … his only reply … “Yes and while you’re out … will you get me a chocolate bar?”
Needless to say … the rest of the day went well … and yes… I got him the darn chocolate!

True That!

What week for Pooker Annie! I got my first EVER tooth ache about 10 days ago.
After day 3 … it was quite clear that … I would (begrudgingly) have to go to the dentist. So last Sunday I stopped into one of those mega dentist facilities because it is the only day off I have from watching Gordo and they were open.
Of course I got the big lecture about taking better care of my teeth …blah, blah, blah and the doc determined that a root canal was in order. So I scheduled an appt. for Wednesday. He assured me that I’d be in and out with 2 hours, as he knew I can’t leave Dad home alone for long.
Wednesday came … I sat and sat and sat. Bottom line is that the dentist hadn't even arrived yet. I got so pissed off that I burst into tears (plus my face felt like it was sliding off with pain). They must have thought I was insane. So I left.
After regaining my composure … I rescheduled for Sunday (yesterday).
Guess what? It’s a new dentist! At this point I wouldn't have cared if the janitor took out pliers.
New doctor looks at my x-rays … then my tooth and announces that I do not need a root canal … that it is just one problematic wisdom tooth.
She numbs me up and the whole ordeal was over within 10 minutes.
Best part … still no pain.

P.S. Gordo's only comment ... "If you had dentures ... you wouldn't have these issues".
True that ...LOL

Oh he makes me smile!

Gordo’s in rare form this morning. He emerged from the bathroom singing some show tune about good ole New England as he very carefully scooted his walker towards his chair. Then he stops and shakes his “bootie”.
I exclaimed … wow dad you must be feeling good today!
He says … “Pooker Annie … I could run if I really wanted too … but … why drain the battery in my pacemaker?”
LOL  … Oh ... he makes me smile!
Have a super weekend my friends.
