August 8
OK folks. A friend of mine was worried because I haven’t posted in a few days.
Thanks for caring Christy.
Gordo is fine … in fact he’s great. Dodie … his lady friend (aka Jaguar lady) came over for a visit on Saturday. Aunt Liz was their hostess (and chaperone) … while I was selfishly pampering myself with a much needed hair coloring (haven’t done a damn thing with my hair since Feb.), pedi and mani.
Sunday we celebrated my “wonderful“ daughter In-law’s birthday with the entire family (less Sisa, Kenny and Steph). Kids played in the pool, we laughed, drank and ate Mikey’s fantastic fish, shrimp and chicken tacos.
All is pretty beautiful in our world.
Love you guys!

Gordo calls her “Inca Princess” . She is my beautiful Daughter In-Law.
Happy Birthday Andrea!
Love you!

Every week Gordo gets the Kroger circular in his Houston Chronicle … and every week he tells me about all the specials they are having … and every week I tell him Mikey shops at the fancy HEB on 290.
Well yesterday after our outing at the Hearing Aid Express … I decided to surprise him with a quick trip to Kroger, as I needed a few items.
Got him all situated in his electric cart, left him in the soup isle so he could pick out a few cans of Progresso soup, while I went to get a few things on the other side of the store.
I wasn’t gone 10 minutes. When I found him … he was in the bakery … French bread in his cart … along with Cheerios, chocolate chip cookies, a roasted chicken and a hand written list that he evidently had made after reviewing this week’s circular.
Dad … what are you doing? When did you make that list? He says … “ I figured one day you’d wise up and shop at Krogers”.
Well … there it is. Guess Gordo and I will be making little trips to Krogers each week … since he goes through the trouble of making a list.
Gotta love it! Have a blessed day my friends.

Gordo’s most recent prized possession is his new HUGO.
We were at the eye doctor a couple of months ago. He was in his wheelchair and a woman was sitting across from him with a cool looking walker. Dad asked how she liked it. She loved hers.
He mentioned it a couple of times. (I’m thinking that he will never use it, as I push him around in his wheelchair). However … I ask … Do you want one? He replies “Hell yes”. OK (???) … so I ordered one online. It sat in his room for weeks.
Then came the Physical Therapist … Lou and his Occupational Therapist ... Chella. These ladies come to the house twice a week and perform their magic. Using his HUGO … they walk around and exercise. Thank you … wonderful ladies!
Now … that he knows he can … we go NOWHERE without the HUGO. In fact he says outrageous things to other elderly folks. “Too bad you didn’t get the HUGO” or if you every need a walker … get a HUGO or he’ll whisper to me … “Pooker Annie … my HUGO is so much nicer than theirs”.
It’s funny how life goes. Last year it was the Honda Accord we bought him. Now he is just as proud of his HUGO. Got to love his spunk!
Have a great week my friends.

Well it was 6 months ago today that I received a call from Gordo. He was sick … really sick.
At that moment we had no idea that life for all of us would change dramatically.
I believe God knew what he was doing. There were no warning signs. One day Dad was buzzing around in his Honda, living on his own, doing his grocery shopping, etc. The next day he could not remember the simplest things.
We had no time to ponder … only time to act. Probably the best thing for all of us.
Within 4 days from that call … we had converted our master bedroom and bath into an efficiency apartment for Gordo. Moved all his stuff into his new home and like THAT we were transformed into a new family unit.
Although it has been a huge adjustment for Gordo and the rest of the family … We’ve actually become much closer. I’ve seen my Dad more in this time than in 5 years. Sad but true. However, we both have gotten to know each other on a whole new level. I’ve become closer than ever with my sister Liz. My husband is even more amazing than I really knew. In fact ... My entire family has risen to the occasion!
So I thank God for all the blessings he has bestowed on us.
We’ve been able to successfully FUNCTION at The DYSFUNCTION JUNCTION! Choo! Choo!
Have a super day!

Lots of lemons this week. Making lemonade … Keep adding sugar, but it still tastes bitter sweet. Thought about just “Drinking the Kool-Aid”. NOPE … going to keep on stirring! Plus … Gordo loves lemonade!
Have a super weekend my friends!

Gordo likes to sit at the kitchen table and watch the birds come to my feeder.
Yesterday he was eating some lunch, while I was cleaning the kitchen. He’s yapping away and I’m buzzing around cleaning. He says to me … I think they’re out of water. I reply … don’t worry … they never drink it anyway. Of course they do … Pooker Annie. Dad … really … I have never once seen them drink from it. He asks … when is the last time you put water out? 4 days or so ago. He’s starting to get upset with me. Then I’m going to put the water out. Daddy … it’s too hot. He replies … too hot? It’s not that hot! As he says this … I turn around to look at him and he’s reaching for the DOGS’ water bowl.
OMG … Dad … I thought you were talking about the birds. Good grief!
I guess I need to pay closer attention.
Have a great day!
August 24
Ok … I’m cleaning my garage.
Gordo is in his room with his new Sony wireless headphones, watching a Netflix DVD of an U2 concert on his new Blu-ray player. Guess He’s is the better negotiator. Just sayin. :)
Have a terrific day!

Liz brings tons of books from the library to Gordo every Sunday. He loves to read. The first one he chose from her stack this week was World Without End by Ken Follett. I read his prior … Pillars of the Earth. Fabulous! Anyway … after a couple of hours holding this very large book … Dad yells out … this book’s too heavy. I want a Kindle!
Oh gosh … here we go! Dad, I’ll download the book onto my iPad. If you like it … we’ll discuss buying a kindle. Well (he’s skeptical) … ok ... Pooker Annie.
So I spend $10 bucks and download it to my iPad. Thinking he’ll get this out of his system and settle for propping up his book with a pillow on his lap or something. Wrong again.
Long story short … Apple has a revised slogan “ If you don’t have an iPad … then … Gordo does”.
Should have bought the Kindle … just sayin.

Today’s field trip. Taking Gordo to Katy Mills Mall. Had to find a place with air conditioning … plus we love to shop!
Have a great day my friends!
Just got back from Katy Mills Mall.
Gordo insisted on taking the HUGO and his cane. That lasted about 5 minutes. Especially having walked from the curb to the entrance in 102 weather. A bit too much for the old guy. Hell … it’s a bit too much for me. Holy mother of heat!
Thank goodness the mall provides free wheelchairs. So … after lugging the HUGO back to the car and getting him situated in his wheelchair … we were off. Made the entire loop around the mall. I may have to take an Advil. Pushing a 220 pound man around … while wearing flip flops is a great workout for the calves.
Gordon scored 2 Boston Red Sox caps at Lids, Adidas socks at Marshalls, he ate 3 scoops of ice cream from Marble Slab and then insisted that I go into the Men’s room with him to empty his bag. Luckily only one other man came in while we were there and he totally understood. Good grief!
Gordo had a great time and I think I lost 5 pounds.
