July 2011

July 3
Well, Gordo’s back at Methodist Hospital. His damn catheter (although medically necessary) wreaks havoc with regard to infection. However ... it appears that we may have caught it much earlier than last time. All his vitals are good. He has fever, an elevated white blood count and is a little more tired than usual. Other than that … he was wearing his Red Sox hat, watching Boston smack the Astros and singing to the nurses last night when I left. God love him and the folks at Methodist! Happy Sunday my friends.
July 4
Gordo’s home! Better than a boat load of fireworks! Happy 4th of July my friends!
July 14
The first part of our morning ritual is unhooking dad from his night Foley (google if you don’t know what this is) bag and connecting him to a leg bag so he can move freely throughout the house. This morning Gordo’s singing ... as I enter his room. “Please release me let me go …” a Kitty Wells song (that I actually know) from 1954. So this morning we sang a duet while launching our day. Have a great one friends!

You know how they say … give a busy person a task and they’ll always get it done?
Well that was true when I was raising 3 small children (all born within 3.5 years) and worked full time.
Then I was an empty nester … and got nothing done.
Now … there’s Gordo. OK … started my new business, care for dad, have his Physical Therapist coming Tues. & Thurs. His Occupational Therapist on Monday and Wednesday, doctor appointments, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 fish and a terribly patient husband. Still have the kids, their kids, my sister and her kids over at least every two weeks, as my family is fabulous.
The funniest part … I’m getting things done. Although … sometimes I feel like the “Old Woman who lives in a Shoe”… However ... I still wouldn’t have it any other way.
Have a super day my friends!

I don’t talk about my mom too much. She passed away 8 years ago.
Today is my 48th birthday, so I wanted to take a minute to thank my mom “Eileen” for giving me this wonderful life. Blessed with a fantastic childhood, love, encouragement and a strong foundation … that has carried me through adulthood, parenthood and … yes … grandparenthood.
So today I honor the woman that made these 48 wonderful years possible.
Love you “Mammy” (my kid’s name for her)!

Have you ever felt that your stars just weren't in alignment? Well today was one of those days. Don't have too many ... but ... Today ... I'm officially inviting all of my friends to my "Exclusive" Pitty Party. Those who do not want to partake ... need not RSVP. Thanks ... from your (typically) loving friend. Now ... it's time for Wine or is it Whine?
July 29
Only “I” could lose an 81 year old man … who’s driving an electric cart at Wal-Mart. After a frantic search … I finally found Gordo … he was parked in the middle of the produce isle. I said “What are you doing”. Pooker Annie, I couldn’t keep up with you. Oh dad … I’m sorry. Then he asks … Can we still pick up some Church’s chicken. You know it! It’s like caring for an eighty year old toddler. God love him.
Have a fabulous weekend my friends!
July 30
My family gave me a gambling trip for my birthday last week. Liz is driving and got us a room for tonight at Isle of Capri in Lake Charles. Mikey gave me gambling money, Kenny and Stephanie are staying at my house to help take care of Gordo and hopefully … I’ll win a little. Thanks to all of them for a fabulous gift!
Liz and I will have a blast … WE always do.
Have a great weekend my friends!
July 31
Well … we lost money … but our time together in Lake Charles was … “Priceless”. Thanks Liz and family for an amazing birthday gift.
Most rewarding was seeing Gordo’s face light up when I got home. The 1st thing I did was serve him his favorite ice cream. Haagen-Dazs’ dulce de leche.
Life is good! Have a fantastic week my friends.
