Good gosh it happened again … only this time … over the loud speaker in Wal-Mart. ATTENTION please! Will Cora Blanchard please meet your father at entrance by McDonalds? Oh for Pete sake! Really??????
Do they make microchips ... exclusively for wacky seniors?
Enjoy your weekend my friends!

No matter how crazy my life gets ... I absolutely adore my WACKY family!
aka "Dysfunction Junction".
Have a great day!

My wonderful grandchildren gave me the gift of a “stomach bug”.
Taking care of Gordo has been challenging… mostly … with regard to trying NOT to spread it to him.
This reminded me … When I was raising 3 small children … I used to pray to God for him to let me live long enough to see them into adulthood. Now … I’m calling in a new request. God, please let me live long enough to see Gordo back to your home.
I believe he’ll help me out … especially if … “only the good die young”.
Stay healthy my friends!

Oh … what a difference a day makes! Feeling great! Thank God! Now it’s time to host a lunch this afternoon for Gordo and his lady friend … Dodie.
BTW … got another letter from my favorite Soldier in Training (Robby). He is so positive and amazing. Almost half way done with Basic Combat Training.
Loving our military. God Bless America!

Yesterday’s lunch for Gordo and Dodie was charming. They are so cute together. Neither one can hear worth a darn, they both forget things and then they try to help the other remember. Priceless!
Friday night turned into an impromptu party at Biba’s. Ours kids, grandkids and Gordo. Ricky and Mikey grilled steaks and the kids ran around like maniacs, while Dad sits through all the chaos with his headphones on … watching a MBL playoff game. Crazy night! It looked like a bomb went off at the circus when I got up this morning, but so worth the cleaning!
Love the Fam!

So yesterday morning after Gordo eats his breakfast … he asks “ Pooker Annie … what’s for dessert?” Dad ... it’s 8:00 in the morning … you just had breakfast! He replies: “who says you can’t have dessert after breakfast?” Well … (I really didn’t have a good answer) I guess you can, so I served him chocolate cake. Does that make me an awful caregiver?;)
Have a super week!
Oct 12
Dear Mr. Stomach Bug, I asked you NOT to revisit our home and infect Gordo or Mikey. You came back anyway. Now I’m super pissed off! Mr. Lysol and I are about to kick your ass!
Have a happy day my friends ;)
Oct 13
This morning dad and I were joking around, as I was getting him up and ready for the day. BTW … he and hubby are much better today. Anyway … he says to me … “Pooker Annie … you’re a hot sketch” .. A what? He says “Google it!” Well I did just that and for your inquiring minds … this is what I found.
Hot sketch: A funny person. The sudden realization that an individual is humorous. This term was used often from 1930-1950 ... when a character was written into a script of a play, radio or TV program for the expressed purpose of providing comedic relief.
I’ll take that as a compliment!
Keep humor in your day folks!

Taking care of Gordo takes up some of my day, then cleaning, and laundry, etc. Since he has inherited my iPad, I’ve taken to reading “printed” books (which I actually prefer). So when he’s napping, watching baseball, etc. … I have been consuming my free time with reading. This is an unexpected perk in my new life as an unemployed caregiver. I thought to share with you the “better” reads. Obviously … these are just one old chick’s opinion, but many of us are friends … we share some of the same values and preferences. Here ya go!
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand = 4 Stars
Fragile by Lisa Unger = 3 Stars
House Rules by Jodi Picoult = 4.5 Stars
Peace Like a River by Leif Enger = 5 Stars

The things that roll around in Gordo’s head!
This morning’s discussion is about being “double jointed. Most of our family is “double jointed”. However … Dad doesn’t think my son, Ricky is … because he can bowl. OK then. Now … he wants me to find out if being “double jointed”. Is hereditary? Because that might explain why most of our family members are clumsy. Gosh ... thanks Dad.
Sparing you the many pages I printed out for him regarding this important topic … this is the bottom line: The condition tends to run in families, suggesting that there may be a genetic basis for at least some forms of hypermobility. The term double jointed is often used to describe hypermobility; however, the name is a misnomer and should not to be taken literally, as an individual with hypermobility in a joint does not actually have two separate joints where others would have just one. Double jointed people are not overextending their joints, but are rather allowing them to function to their fullest capability. It just so happens that this capability is beyond the typical person's ability for movement.
So I guess that may explain why we are clumsy … we move more than most … therefore increasing our odds for injury ???? Well … that’s Gordo’s take anyway.
There you have it … another imponderable solved.
Good Grief!
Have a super Friday!

Gordo watches EVERY MBL playoff game. Pretty soon the season will end, so I asked him … Dad, what will you do when baseball is over this season? Dad: I guess I’ll have to watch football … although I prefer to watch sports where you can see their faces and expressions (hmm… never thought about that… interesting).
Pooker Annie, I took your mom to see that Nelson fellow at the old Summit years ago. OMG (I’m thinking)he and my mom went to the New Year’s Eve concert at the Summit with Willie Nelson … wow … what a trip???? Anyway … he continues … and that football star … Campbell? Yes … I say Earl Campbell. Yah that’s him. That poor bastard (excuse his French) came on stage and could barely walk. Didn’t watch much football after seeing that.
I guess that experience left a different impression on my mom. She went out and bought season tickets to the Houston Oilers. Front row on the 50 yard line! Had them for over 10 years. Needless to say … Gordo never went to one game and they (coincidently) were divorced a year after that Willie Nelson concert.
Funny how people think so differently.
Sorry dad … must have some mom in me. …. GO TEXANS!
Oct 18
Busy week planned for Gordo and his chauffeur. Federal employee’s meeting, men’s luncheon ay Yao’s, a doctor’s appt. in Sugar Land and he also wants to go to the King Tut exhibit!
The HUGO is going to get some mileage this week!
Make it a great one folks!
Oct 22
So … yesterday I took care of two boys. Gordo and Owen (2 years old). Both behaved pretty well ;) All Owen had to say was … MORE cookies … Biba. All Dad had to say was … don’t let him eat all MY cookies … Pooker Annie. All I have to say is … neither of them like CHARDONNAY … thank God!
Have a super day!

Gordo always wears a cap. For years he wore one with Harrah’s (casino) on it. In fact he was still wearing it when he moved in with us. Ratty looking, but (as he put it) fit his big head. Well … I simply couldn’t stand it any longer, so I searched and found a cap (big enough for his head). It had Callaway (golf) on it. Much better!
We (later) discovered a cap shop at Katy Mills Mall. They had Boston Red Sox caps that were extra-large, so I bought 3. He actually chooses which one he wants to wear each day … like I woman chooses her accessories.
I can’t tell you … how many people Gordo has baseball conversations with, as a result of those silly caps. The other day a man who was sitting in the waiting area at Yao’s, struck up a talk with dad and actually told his party (who were being seated), that he’d join them in a minute, as he was still talking with dad.
Gosh … Dad … these caps … are real conversation starters … aren’t they? He replies : Thank God you got these … Pooker Annie. I got sick and tired of talking about gambling (which he’ll have no part of BTW) and even worse … golf!
I guess … you are … what you wear. Choose wisely my friends!
Oh… sorry dad … GO RANGERS!
Oct 24
OK … Biba’s ready for a day with little Owen and Gordo
Play Dough - check
Cookies- check
Chardonnay (for later) - check
Let the games begin!
Have a super week my friends :)
Oct 30
I’ve recently learned at the school of Gordo…
Haagen-Dazs and Blue Bell are NOT equal… after I tried to sneak Blue Bell into his bowl this week
HEB’s sausage and biscuits pale in comparison to Jimmie Dean’s … damn … how did he know?
And NEVER EVER change the brand of catheter bags … he almost had a temper tantrum … I had to race out and get the RIGHT one.
Now … I know what you all are thinking. Bad… Bad … Caregiver.
However … I did redeem myself on the way home from the medical supply store. Thank God for … Churches Chicken!
Make it a great one and NEVER try to trick old people ;)

Gordo loves reading books on his (used to be mine) iPad because I can make the fonts large. However … that can become a little costly, so we’ve been getting large print books from the library.
What Dad can’t quite understand … is that not all books are available in large print. So I reason with him … explaining that he reads the newspaper every day and the font isn’t large there. He says “ that’s true … Pooker Annie”. Yeah … now I can get him most any book he wants. For free.
His latest obsession is John Saul. He actually had read one of his books … (in large print) and liked it. I hadn’t been able to locate any more of Saul’s books in large print. But … now … with Dad’s new found thought process … I go and get 3 books from the library.
Hand Gordo one of the books and leave the room. Two minutes later. “Pooker Annie!” Yes dad. He hands the book back to me and says “make the font larger”. Bless his heart. He’s confused. Daddy it’s a print book … I can’t do that. Several seconds pass while he’s processing my comment … then he retorts … Go to Amazon (his term for ibooks) … then! … As if I’m stupid. So I simply say … Great idea dad!
Seeing his face light up was worth every bit of the $7.99 I spent. “ See Pooker Annie … I knew you could do it!” … and that my friends was PRICELESS!
Happy Halloween!
